Natura Pet recall extended

Updated information: April 19, 2013
Dear Natura Family,

On March 18, 2013, we informed you of a voluntary recall on select Natura products.

Out of an abundance of caution, we are extending our recall to include all Natura dry dog, cat and ferret food and treats that have expiration dates on or before March 24, 2014. We are sorry for the disruption, but we simply want to ensure that every product meets our highest quality standards.

Please go to for the full release, and instructions regarding product replacement.

This company makes fine products, and I appreciate that they are trying to err on the side of being overly cautious. Sadly, this also means it will be a little harder to find my favorite dog food in stock for a while. The local Petco has been out for weeks. One local kennel had a few bags in stock, but they’re now part of the extended recall.

Support BrewPups by purchasing PETCO products

While BrewPups is not a charity as of yet, food and vet bills for fostering activities still cost a little. If you buy PETCO products through any one of the links in this posting, you not only save yourself a few bucks over in-store prices, but the gas needed to get there. Best of all, a small percentage goes to BrewPups which will be used toward helping dogs in need.

In addition to many wonderful sales, PETCO offers Free Shipping for orders $49 or over

Here are dog foods I highly recommend:

Innova Large Bites Adult Dry Dog Food (30 lbs.)
Innova Red Meat Large Bites Adult Dry Dog Food (30 lbs.)

It is assumed any other products purchased after using one of the above links contributes to the BrewPups cause, so you shouldn’t need to stick with the recommendations above.

Thanks for any help. Give your pups a hug from us.

A serene evening

One evening, I turned around from my computer after a longer session of saving the world from evil, to find this going on.

All aboard the sleepy train!

As usual, Emma didn’t stay put by the time I got the camera out. At least she didn’t try to leave the room before I got the pic.

We’re waiting!

Guess who wants to go for a walk… WE do!

No one shall pass until we get walked!

This it the view from the front door. The ‘airlock’ system is more of a visual deterrent, as Bonnie, the white lab, can easily crush the fence by leaning on it.

Guess I better get the leashes…

Minor tweaks

I’ve tweaked the appearance a little. The original Quentin theme from the was renamed to MyQuentin.

There is now much less use of annoying uppercase letters.
The red background blasting from the sides is now a bamboo background.
Proper attribution is given to WordPress and DreamHost

Undoubtedly, there will be more tweaks. For instance, we’re going to need some kind of BrewPups logo. And dog faces, with beer mugs. And links to dog-friendly breweries and drinkeries! And … 😉

Clean and shiny

All three dogs got their baths, Bonnie yesterday, Emma and Remy this morning.

Since Bonnie had essentially been nuked 2 weeks ago, I just used baby shampoo on her. She didn’t seem much of a fan of it, and I’d have to agree with her, at least as to the smell. And it lingers! I’ll have to find something mild I can stand for next time.

This was Emma’s first bath in my foster care. As independent as she always tries to be, this must have been a little tricky for her to endure. She was most calm when she attempted to hide between my legs. Great, now I look like I peed myself.

Remy did very well this time. He didn’t try to sit, but still kept his head low which can be an issue when water runs down his neck into his face.

Apart from Emma almost immediately casting herself into the grass to roll on her back, covering herself with dry grass clippings, I think it went very well.

I still think I should get paid for this 😉 Ah, but I do! These dogs pay me back with interest to spare. Wonderful creatures.

And Emma makes three…

In addition to Bonnie’s arrival 2 weekends ago, Emma was in dire need of a foster as well. She had already been waiting a while to get into a foster home, so I thought I’d give it a shot with 3 dogs in the apartment (there is also my own black lab, Remy, in this communal gathering).

Emma wants to be your favorite!

There are a few more pics of her in the BrewPups Gallery. She’s pretty camera shy, but I hope to capture a few more pics before long.

She is a very affectionate young shepherd/lab mix, and also very sly. She almost immediately found the weak spot in my area, and nearly escaped as we were preparing for the first walk.

She’s been somewhat hesitant to play. Finally, in the last couple of days, I got her interested in one of those furry squeaky toys without stuffing. Wonderful to see her having such fun with it. She showed a little possessiveness toward the other dogs, but no problem when I got close.

In general, she hasn’t shown any issues with humans, and was quite well behaved when the local kids came to pet her. She loves being the center of attention, plain and simple. But then, all my dogs do 🙂

Bonnie, the forsaken pup

Last week, a good friend and dog lover found a white lab roaming one of the local FM roads. You can see some pics of her in the BrewPups Gallery.

This young female was completely encrusted in fleas and their droppings. She even still had stitches in her belly, no telling how long.

Bonnie says "Hi!"

She doesn’t look undernourished, actually a bit overweight. The locals said she’d been running around there for a while. Mystery! There are some markings on her upper snout indicating something was wrapped around it really tight, tight enough to have permanently twisted 2 of her teeth!

Well, she’s in better hands now, as I take her into my foster care. The vet thinks she may be no older than 18 months. She’s already adapted quite well, with only an occasional flinch resulting from the trauma days now past.

Annie is in Connecticut!

It’s been a busy week since that last bath. Annie is now with her new family in Connecticut. I uploaded the few pics I’ve received so far in Happy Waggings gallery.

I just learned that the Piwigo, the software powering the gallery, does not auto-resize the pictures, so it may seem to take a while for viewing as the pics are really large. I’ll see if there’s a plugin for it, or just have to do it manually before upload next time.

Anyway: Hurray for Annie!

Annie is on her way to CT

Annie was brought to the Rescue Roadtrips transport in Baytown this afternoon. She’ll be with her new family on Saturday.

Here is the last pic I took, after Annie and Remy got a bath yesterday:

Waiting for the post-bath air-dry walk.
